Not sure what to do with your life? This video may help…
Do you have a hard time answering the ever-so open ended question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” There are millions of possibilities, and it’s so hard to pick just one answer. According to Emilie Wapnick, a writer and artist, many people have potential for a range of interests and jobs throughout your life. And, that’s okay! Don’t let society pressure you into a corner with your career.
There are limitless opportunities for what you can do with your life, and if you have a hard time deciding, you may be what Wapnick describes in her TED Talk as a “multi-potentialites.” It’s completely okay to be unsure what you want to do with the rest of your entire life. Don’t let that stop you from deciding what to do right now.
You can start to narrow down career choices by learning what you do or do not like through experience either in a job, internship, or as a volunteer. Never feel like you have to stay in your same career field just because you started in it. Many of us start our first job out of college with no idea what we ultimately want to do with the rest of our lives, and that’s perfectly okay.
Some people don’t know what they want to do with the rest of their life until they are in their 40s or 50s. It’s never too late to change careers, to go back to school, or to learn a new skill. That’s the beauty of life, there’s no time limit and no rules. So, don’t feel pressured to know the answer to the question, “What do you want to do with your life?” It’s good to let the question resonate with you, so you can think on it, but it’s totally okay not to have an answer anytime soon.
