Q & A Series… The Inside Scoop on Platinum Resumes – Client Perspective, Pt. 2

Q & A Series… The Inside Scoop on Platinum Resumes – Client Perspective, Pt. 2

We are excited to extend our blog series for yet another week with more client feedback! We know that we are working hard to mold and develop stronger job candidates in today’s competitive market, but it is nice to be reminded that our work at Platinum Resumes is not in vain. This is a testimony from an individual, much like yourself, who was already  successful and capable in his field yet yielded even greater success from our professional advice and expertise. We hope that the experience he shares below will further convince you that you, too, could benefit from our services at PR!

  • How did you discover Platinum Resumes?

I received a recommendation from a long-time friend who was also a Platinum Resumes client. He had tremendous success with his career following working with them and insisted I give Platinum a call.

  • What brought you to the point of choosing to seek professional assistance with your job search efforts?

I have a strong education but was not finding the career opportunities I had expected, following completion of my degree. I was witnessing my friends and colleagues find success who had hired outside help, and I wanted to follow suit.

  • Was it easy to become a client with Platinum Resumes? Why or why not?

Yes. They were extremely thorough in explaining their process and what was required of me in terms of providing information. They were also very clear in understanding my skills, background, and career goals before executing their services.

  • What about working with Platinum was most helpful to you in your journey of working to land your dream job?

I made it clear what my ideal company and job were, and Platinum targeted it with the resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. I was given the interview in a very competitive landscape and offered the job among many qualified candidates.

  • Did the cost of the services that Platinum Resumes offered you pay off in the end? Was it worth it?

Absolutely, yes! It is another industry in which you certainly get what you pay for. I have used Platinum several times, and, each time, I have gotten a better employment opportunity. These services helped me land my ideal job and the compensation which goes along with it!

  • If you were to sit down with a potential PR client, what would you say was the most valuable piece of advice that you walked away with?

Learning that the job search process, when done right, starts long before applying for the job itself. It is vital to be prepared. It is about having a polished resume ready to present along with the other materials including cover letter and references dossier. It is important to have these ready to go at all times, instead of rushing to complete them only when an opportunity arises.

  • Did you land that dream job that you were after?

Yes. And it is going great!

Q & A Series… The Inside Scoop on Platinum Resumes – Client Perspective

Q & A Series… The Inside Scoop on Platinum Resumes – Client Perspective

We are continuing along in our series featuring some Q & A time with a few of those folks who have given Platinum Resumes a try and have been very pleased with that choice! Today’s blog features dialogue with a PR client who shares with us about his journey with Platinum Resumes and all that he has taken with him throughout and following the client experience.

  • What brought you to the point of choosing to seek professional assistance with your job search efforts?

After exhausting myself on researching where to start a resume for a new type of field, I thought that this would be the best option to get professional advice and to get started. People like those at Platinum Resumes have way more experience when it comes to writing resumes because they’ve dealt with it for a very long time. After I had researched a bit, I thought that this would save me a lot of time and it has! Best decision ever for the resume part. As for the LinkedIn profile and other little things that come with the service, I had no idea about. I have heard of LinkedIn, but I, again, did not know where to start on this. So, I thought that hiring a professional would be very beneficial. Not only for the resume and LinkedIn part, but just even with connections and other support. By having a professional it minimizes stress and anxiety because you always have someone there to coach you.

  • Was it easy to become a client with Platinum Resumes? Why or why not?

Yes, it was. At first I was worried about scams because there are so many out there, but when I had asked for some information I received a phone call immediately. In this time frame I had learned with other services that I do not even get to really communicate with my writer without going through a lengthy process. Communication with Platinum Resumes was instant, and, if I ever need anything, they are just a phone call away to help out, even in the off hours. Steve and his crew are the best thing ever, so… Yes, it was exceptionally easy to become a client with Platinum Resumes.

  • What about working with Steve was most helpful to you in your journey of working to land your dream job?

His attitude and communication. I was instantly hooked by his personality and how nice of a guy he is. He is someone who will go out of his way to help someone out. I have only known him for a couple of weeks now, and I already consider him not only a mentor but a friend. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to have as a mentor to help me out. Even after I land my job and everything is situated, he will still offer great services.

  • Did the cost of the services that Platinum Resumes offered you pay off in the end? Was it worth it?

Oh, yes. They will do whatever is possible to fit into your budget, but his cost in general is amazingly fair to begin with. If you compare service to service, he offers such a great package. With other places you cannot just communicate with your writer directly as you can with Platinum Resumes. They have the best support hands down, and the stuff they did for me is going to definitely pay off in the end. In a big city like KC, you need any advantage you can have to reach the next level. He took me under his arm and now things are going to go excellent. Also, their guarantee is what won me over. You will not find this with any other company.

  • If you were to sit down with a potential PR client, what would you say was the most valuable piece of advice that you walked away with?

If I was to sit down with a potential PR client, I would say that the most valuable piece of advice is that communication is key. I feel like PR helped me learn how to instill professionalism within myself and know when to talk and at what pace. Being overly confident can be bad, but being under confident is even worse so finding that happy medium I think was the hardest for me.

  • Did you land that dream job that you were after?

Not yet, but I know I will. Steve is an artist with what he can do, and so is his team. I haven’t done much job searching yet as we are still setting everything up, but I will tell you this. I had my first draft on my resume done in less than 6 hours of sending him the questionnaire full and complete. The things that Steve can whip up is remarkable. With the guarantee that Platinum Resumes offers, you can’t go wrong.

  • If you were to encounter a friend or family member in need of resume services, would you recommend our company to them?

Oh, heck yes. I would recommend them to the whole country if I could! Platinum Resumes is a rare kind of business that you will not usually find in today’s typical market. Again, as previously said, no customer service is better than theirs! It is the best thing you can do to further enhance your job search. You would be mistaken to not go with Steve’s crew. If you are looking for excellent customer service and great response time, Go. With. Platinum. Resumes!!

Q & A Series… The Inside Scoop on Platinum Resumes

Today we kick off a new blog series featuring multiple Q & A sessions with a few of those who find Platinum Resumes very near and dear to their hearts. Our first session features the owner himself, Steve Hankins. Steve provides us with some insight into the development of Platinum Resumes, shares a bit about himself personally, and offers valuable reasons why becoming a client will greatly impact your career and your future.

  • How long has Platinum Resumes been in existence?

After several years of writing resumes on the side of other corporate jobs, I launched Platinum Resumes in 2009 upon receiving my certification in resume writing (CPRW). The years pass quickly!

  • What inspired you to launch Platinum Resumes?

I realized in my own job search efforts out of college how competitive the market was, and how much difference having a certified writer made in my own endeavors. Upon beginning to write them myself part time, I very much enjoyed getting to know clients and their interests, skills, and true dreams for their careers and lives. I decided to quit my 8-5 and pursue this initiative full time, and never looked back.

  • Which piece of the job search process is most interesting to you? Why?

The most interesting part for me is element of trying to determine what a person wants to do. The vast majority of professionals in America do not like their jobs, where they will spend 90,000 hours or more of their lives. You might call it the “pre-process” of finding out exactly what skills and passions may meet the need of the world, and love assisting people in finding that calling.

  • How old were you when you wrote your first resume? Which job were you applying for at the time?

Probably in high school! I worked through high school and college, and realize in hindsight this is where the great “resume problem” begins. People learn from a text book or online template how to create a resume, and it ends up looking just like millions upon millions of others. I wish I could dig up my first attempt!

  • What type of resume package is the most popular with your clients?

Most clients pursue the optimized resume rewrite, cover letter, and references dossier. What usually happens from there is they realize the power and importance of LInkedIn, and ascertain us to complete that as well.

  • As a client, how long can you expect the process of creating a resume to take with your company?

Great question! Once a client is on board, we provide them with a worksheet to gather additional information about themselves, which they complete and return to us along with an old resume or other details they’d like to share. Once this is submitted, we turn around drafts within 7 business days or less.

  • What do you consider to be the most valuable in your investment as a Platinum Resumes’ client?

There is a two-part answer to this which I view as invaluable. First, there is the statistics-backed boost in career, including a 40% increase in online response to job applications, interview requests, and job offers, in addition to better salaries. Less tangible is the supreme confidence clients derive from seeing themselves shine on paper in ways they never thought possible. This is what I TRULY love, and have had the occasional client moved to happy tears!

  • Aside from spearheading the work done through Platinum Resumes, what else occupies your time?

While Platinum is my primary focus I also have ownership in a couple of other companies which combine to keep me busy most of the year. I have a secondary passion for entrepreneurship and love helping startups get off the ground. Otherwise I am an avid sports and fitness fan, coming from a lineage of baseball professionals.

  • If you were forced to leave the resume writing business tomorrow and pursue a different career, which would you choose?

I believe I would take a slight step in the career coaching direction, focusing on helping professionals at all levels find that passion and path which will bring them fulfillment in addition to monetary wealth. If I had to step into something completely different, I would contribute to a startup incubator and aid entrepreneurs in succeeding!

Confidence and Character… Exploring What Exactly Hiring Managers are Looking For

Confidence and Character… Exploring What Exactly Hiring Managers are Looking For

If you’re in the midst of a job search, trying to get your resume to the top of the list and your foot in the door of that big interview, then you know how taxing the process can be. If you’re serious about landing that dream job, then you understand how much hard work should go into getting your act together and developing yourself as a future employee.

Many people mistakenly believe that getting a nice looking resume together is all there is to preparing yourself for your big break. Others understand that you need to have a good resume along with a legitimate cover letter and some killer interview skills. But, only a few of those seeking to advance their career understand that there is an element of introspection and self-awareness that must be coupled with the rest of the package.

LinkedIn has recently put together a series, How I Hire, that shares advice from some of the most well-known, successful hiring managers in the country. Each hiring manager shares their two cents worth on how to prepare for your next interview, looking outside the box and beyond the standard, expected questions.

Each of the hiring managers being interviewed, while sharing different perspectives, have commonality in that they are looking very intently at the character and heart of the individual being considered. They can easily read about your skills and job performance on the documentation that you have provided, but there are other questions to be asked and scenarios to be explored that reveal a passion and depth to you as a potential employee. Taking the interview a step further is a necessity in knowing whether or not you are the right fit for the job at hand.

So, as you read through the How I Hire series that is linked below, consider yourself and what you have to offer to that company that you’ve been dreaming about for months. Just as you know how fast you can type or how many millions of dollars you helped manage over the course of last year, you should also know where you passions lie and what it is that your coworkers love most about you.

At Platinum Resumes, we work with a vast array of clients who are in your same boat and are stretching themselves and working to learn more about their journey and the direction of their future. Give us a call at 816.986.0909, and get to know yourself better so that you can get hired!
